Batoni Appeal
The Art Fund and Olympia Fine Art & Antiques Fair are launching a public appeal to save Pompeo Batoni’s Portrait of John Rolle Walter. This work was recently removed from auction at the last minute to give the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter a chance to raise the funds to buy it. John Rolle Walter was an eminent figure in the political history of Southwest England, while Pompeo Batoni is regarded as one of the greatest portrait painters of the 18th century, making this a major potential acquisition.
Visitors to the fair can contribute to our £15,000 target by buying a piece of a giant Batoni puzzle (prices from £5– 1,000), made by Wentworth Wooden Puzzles to support the appeal. Please do join us at the fair to lend your support.
